Stewart Trust (http://www.stewart-rehab.org.nz) help people recover from head injuries. Unfortunately, too many people are incapacitated with brain injuries and it’s important to help them recover as quickly as possible so they can return to meaningful work and get on with the rest of their lives with a sense of belonging and self-worth. When Stewart asked us to help, we were thrilled!
By providing an opportunity to help get injured people back into work, even in a small way, improves their self-confidence, self-esteem, relationships and self-care. All of these things improve independence and often reducing reliance on funded services long-term, represent a better quality of life for the client.
Kinetics is proud to be supporting Stewart’s environmental initiative, run in partnership with “Trees for Survival” (http://www.tfsnz.org.nz/) Based at Stewart’s Auckland South branch in Papatoetoe, they are taking up about 800 native plants (23 plants per year negate the carbon footprint of a car). It’ll give meaning and some horticultural skills to the rehabilitation ‘clients’ and even better, the plants then go to schools and community groups where they get planted out where they are most needed, reducing erosion, improving water quality, creating habitats for native species and most of all, improving our local environment.
It’s a great project and we are delighted to be involved!
