Many Councils throughout New Zealand have expressed their support for the Trees for Survival (TfS) programme. The level of support varies from council to council but in general TfS falls within delegated council responsibilities ie: promoting environmental sustainability and support for schools.

Councils may agree to assist schools by giving horticultural advice, identifying suitable planting sites, providing seedlings to grow and plant or other assistance as agreed between the parties.
