The whole of Westbrook School in Rotorua delivered a powhiri to welcome guests Ian Shipman, Manager of the Ibis Hotel, part of the Accor Hotel chain and Amanda Besley, TfS Field Officer, to an assembly. The school is the first in the Rotorua District sponsored by Accor, a National Gold Champion for TfS.

Each team contributed to the assembly with art work, powerpoints, poetry, drama and stories. The hall was delightfully decorated with the forest theme. A mural of the forest, alive with native bird artwork lit up the back wall of the stage, while along the front were tiny trees with outstretched foliage made from hand prints.

Following the formal assembly the children of the Kakariki Enviro group moved to the newly established garden area, where a sunny yellow ribbon tied across the entrance way was officially cut by Ian, announcing the official start of the TfS, Westbrook School and Accor Hotel partnership.

All children at Westbrook School then contributed to a day of pricking out seedlings and an impressive total of over 1200 plants, including manuka, cabbage tree, flax and hebe was achieved.
